Every adventure promises to be a rewarding and memorable experience.
That, to me, is the joy of travelling.
One of the things which I relish in life comes in the form of surprises. Be it a birthday gift, a sudden greeting from an old friend whom I’ve not met in ages, or an upcoming travel-adventure of sorts, I’d welcome it all with open arms.
As an avid writer and traveler, I regard sharing my travel plans and experiences with you, a privilege. My name is Andre Neville, a 25-year-old student from the University of Melbourne. Blogging is to me, an opportunity to pen my thoughts and engage with people from all over the world through the online platform.
The term ‘travel’ is one that comes with a plethora of definitions. Every entry into a foreign land can be comparable to that of stepping into (or out) of a classroom. I perceive it to be an avenue for obtaining invaluable information. We may come across a wide array of video footage or view images of global landmarks online; maybe even hear about stereotypes of different nationalities from our friends. But, none of those could come close to seeing what the world has to offer, than through our very own eyes.
Travelling allows me to be exposed to the many forms of thrills and spills that a country offers. Exposing myself to a different form of flora and fauna, being part of a different culture and even indulging in lip-smacking delights originating from a particular nation are just a few of the experiences which I believe, will contribute to timeless memories that will be etched in my mind for a lifetime.
As travel writer Pico Iyer mentioned,”For if every true love affair can feel like a journey to a foreign country, where you can’t quite speak the language, and you don’t know where you’re going, and you’re pulled ever deeper into the inviting darkness, every trip to a foreign country can be a love affair, where you’re left puzzling over who you are and whom you’ve fallen in love with,” I couldn’t help but agree with his outlook on the joy of travelling.
The encounter with a new environment is an opportunity of self-discovery, combined with the revelation of new-found knowledge. It takes the form of an education that comprises neither textbooks nor grades. We absorb all that’s around us at our own pace, in our own time. We take on the roles of student and teacher simultaneously and return home with a host of stories, stories that we can proudly call our own.
With over 150 countries in the world, Japan is one which I’ve yet to cross off my list-of-places to visit. The city of Tokyo, has always been a place that has sparked my interests over the years.
Seeing as Japanese Animation or ‘Anime’, as it is widely referred to, had been and still is, to this day a huge influence on me, I thought of leveraging on this blogging platform to bring fellow anime enthusiasts to the fantasy realm nestled in Tokyo. It is home to some of the world’s most recognizable anime attractions. Series’ such as Pokemon, DragonBall and Gundam have staked their claims in Japan’s capital, with theme parks and merchandise stores being some of the notable attractions to have gathered anime fans from all over the world.
